Remembering the Blessings in Our Lives

Remembering the Blessings in Our Lives

Count your blessings because their are others who are less fortunate…[Image from: brightnewideas.org]

I saw this quote on Instagram and it really spoke to me. With all that is going on in the world (especially with the unfortunate events in Boston) we sometimes we get soo into our heads and we forget that there are MILLIONS of people who are suffering everyday! This reminds me how blessed my life is and how fortunate I am to just do what I do everyday. I hope you take the time out to just marvel at the blessings in your life and please pray for the less fortunate (Especially the victims in Boston). Love you guys and always enjoy to live life to the fullest no matter what ๐Ÿ™‚

Let’s Do Something New This Week: Smoothie Challenge!

Highlights of this weekend :-)

Highlights of this weekend ๐Ÿ™‚

Hello My Fit and Fun Foodies,

I hope everyone had a great weekend! Mine was filled with great company, food, and not so much relaxation. I went to see one of my best friends in the lovely city of Brooklyn and we had a great time! We went out to a chic art mag event followed by ending the night with drinks and not so healthy but great food from Soco. The next day I started off the day right by going to Cornerstone and having delicious Steak and Eggs

Steak and Eggs were sooo good!

while sipping on some DELICIOUS Mimosas

. The rest of the day I went home and relaxed and today I enjoyed a great and spiritual day with my family.

This weekend I have learned that I have become wayyy more positive and upbeat about life. Who knew that make healthy and great life style choices can make you so much more happier and see a more positive outlook on life. This fitness and clean health journey has been something that I have fallen in love with. Its become almost an obsession and while I do have times where I am so tired I cannot even move, I still will force myself to have my workout. Dedication is key and I am happy to say that I am BEYOND dedicated to leaving a healthier and happier lifestyle.

This week what I would like to do is start a two week smoothie challenge. For two weeks I will have a smoothie for both breakfast and as a afternoon snack. They will be generally low carb smoothies, but there will be days where I indulge in a higher carb fruit. I also will limit my carb intake and eat loaded veggies with either chicken or fish on the daily. It will be fun and interesting to see where this will go but I will let you know how it goes and meanwhile I will posts my most favorite smoothie recipes!

So my friends on that note hope you all have a happy and healthy week filled with great food and good memories! And remember, try to create something exciting and new this week ๐Ÿ˜‰

I hope that in the future you all enjoy my posts and get inspired to create something beautiful wether food, writing, clothing, whatever it may be ๐Ÿ™‚inspiring blog award

So let’s get to the good stuff. I was graciously nominated by the blog, “And Thats All She Wrote!” with the Inspiring Blog Award. This blog is filled with such inspiring posts about her life and has an array of different topics, from recipes, to life stories she shares it all. It is intimate and a beautiful read and you will not be disappointed if you check it out! I am beyond honored due the fact that I am still new to the world of blogging and the thought of being nominated for anything is an upmost honor. This to me honestly show that I can inspire someone with each post that I write. So I hope to bring you all inspiring posts in the future ๐Ÿ™‚

So now to the rules of the Inspiring Blogging Award. Other than posting the award (TADA lol), link the person who had nominated you in your future posts (I also think thanking them is always nice :-)), than share 8 facts about yourself, then last but not least nominate fellow bloggers that you feel are an inspiration. So here goes nothing…

8 Facts about this Culinary Girl

1. Music is literally a part of my life and a part of me. I cannot function without it whether working in the kitchen, driving, reading, writing, the list goes on. It inspires me not only to create, but it helps me think at times…basically music was my first love and will always beย โ™ฅ

2. Even though I am a “winter baby” and was even born in a blizzard (January 3), I HATE the snow! Maybe cause I grew up with snow or the fact that I was born in a blizzard and had countless bday parties ruined, or even the fact that I had to go to school in a foot of snow (damn that school that was in the snow-belt of America!) I just am not to found of it. But I have to admit it is pretty to look at…

3. Other than baking and cooking, poetry and writing short stories is another form of therapy for me. When I cannot express myself the way I would like, I like to write it out. Writing has calmed my mind in soo many occasions.

4. Even though I sometimes appear to be level-headed and always have my shit together (excuse my french), in my head I always second guess myself and strive to be perfect.

5. I am a hopeless romantic at heartย

6. I love taking pictures, especially food pictures and abstracts of things around me

7. I am very close to my family (some related by blood and some not) and believe in the end of the day they will always be there, and they always have.

8. I am a HUGE daydreamer ๐Ÿ™‚

Now that you have a feel of who I am I hope you all enjoy my following nominations. These are blogs that I follow that I love reading and they inspire me to create something new. Some may be repeats from my Super Sweet Blogger Award post but they just inspire me that I have to repeat them again!

Hello My Adventurous Foodies!

I hope everyone had a great and fun weekend. My weekend was filled with some relaxation, productive cleaning, and spending time with some great friends. Nothing beats good food and great company and I have to say I had both this weekend! I finally had the chance to visit the restaurant Sugarcane in Flatbush Ave., Brooklyn, NY. (This post is especially for my New Yorkers who are into Caribbean food or looking for a new cuisine to embark, I strongly suggest trying Caribbean cuisine if you are into lots of flavors and an array of exotic herbs and spices, it is one of my FAVORITES!) My best friend who lives in Brooklyn has been raving about this restaurant for the longest time and I finally got the chance to see it with my own eyes and mouth (well so to speak LOL).

A couple of my friends and a fun journey up to brooklyn and was welcomed warmly with our hostess who had seated us in a comfy booth for 5 at the restaurant. The restaurant is small and cozy (resembles a upscale bistro) and the service was great. ย Our server was extremely friendly and polite and we got our food quickly for a restaurant that was packed on a saturday night.

We started off with yummy and infamous Rum Punch which was STRONG yet tasty (DEFINETLY a must for Rum lovers, or someone who wants that immediate buzz).

We than all had different entrees. I was starving so I wanted something filling and when my best friend raved about their Rasta Pasta, I knew I had to have it! Rasta Pasta is a creamy pasta filled with delicious Caribbean spices with your choice of vegetables, chicken or shrimp. I had the chicken and I have to say I loved it.

Other items that I got to sample was the Jerk Chicken, Rice and Beans, Shrimp, Fried Plantains, and their Macaroni Pie. All were delicious and you can tell they were made from scratch. The food to me tasted just like if you were down in a local restaurant in the Caribbean and eating authentic Caribbean cuisine. We than finished with a sample of their desserts that included Chocolate Cake, Bread Pudding, Cassava, and Coconut Ice Cream.

In the end we split the bill between all of us (Gratuity is included for groups of 4 and up) and the check average per person was $49) I think this was great deal because not only did we each get a drink but also a appetizer, entree and a dessert.

The food overall was delicious and the service was great! It is refreshing to go into a restaurant like Sugarcane and enjoy a delicious and authentic meal in a great atmosphere. I definetly recommend Sugarcane to anyone who wants to try a new retaurant in Brooklyn. So if you are in the area and want to try something new, go to Sugarcane! You will not regret it ๐Ÿ™‚

Brooklyn in the Moonlight

So last friday I had the pleasure of meeting up with my friend in downtown brooklyn for dinner, wine, and of course girl gab time. I had worked that day prior to meeting her so good company, food, and wine were a must. I had not wanted to go all the way to brooklyn but I’m soo glad I had. The streets when walking to the restaurant was calm and peaceful compared to the hustle and bustle of time square and it def was a great change from the norm.

We looked around and my friend took us to Chez Oskar and it was a cute little parisan restaurant. Our waitress was nice and we were automatically given water and bread. We started off with pink vodka lemonade that was freshly squeezed and delicious. Than we shared an appetizer which was crab cake which was soo delicious and fresh that I craved more. I never was huge on crab cakes but this one was the best I ever had. For our entrees my friend had roasted chicken with potatoes while I had grilled hangar steak with potatoes and carmalized onions. They both were soo delicious. One bite into my steak was soo juicy and nicely seasoned. We drank pinot grigio with our meal which was a nice light balance. Lastly we had flourless cake with vanilla ice cream. The cake tasted almost like mousse and it was made to perfection.

This by far was the best meal I had in a while. What I loved most was just the nice calm ambiance and just delicious and filling cooked food. I’m already a fan of french food and I can’t wait to tackle these dishes myself. I definitely rate this as an amazing and worth checking out!
